Granite is a Hardcore Rock
MFA Degree Show, Glasgow School of art
08|06|2011 - 19|06|2011
The Glue Factory, Glasgow

In his recent projects, jocelyn villemont made a new reading of two histories linked by magical visions and sensations. The acid house culture, and the prehistoric rock carving. Retaking the cups and rings markings of the ancient shepherds by carving a happy face into a big granite pill.
In front of that two PA cabinets are covered by a Granite camouflage net and we can hear what would be a lo-fi version of the TB-303 with rocks knocking each other into a minimal and hypnotic beat. The Granite camo net evoke the relation to nature of those celebrations, usually happening outdoor and communing with it, melting with it, but also quite artificial as it mimmicks granite in the way a terrazzo do.
The series of fluo posters is a declination of the phrase ''Granite is a Hard Core rock'', Granite is hard core rock, Granite is a hard rock, Granite is hard core, Granite is hard, without bending on one side or another of the history, Granite become the ambiguous word. Keeping this status that even the family picture (Pushing too hard, 2011) with the two kids in fluo pushing the monolith wouldn't help.
